Core curriculum / Structure

1.  Core curriculum

  •  Performance & Development Coaching
A selection of primary models will be available from the web site or recommended literature. The collective knowledge and experience will be harnessed to make the theory alive and practical and highlight the inherent strengths and limitations of any model
  • Psychological Models & Techniques
Coaching is not therapy, however many of the more complicated coaching issues stem from the sources explored in therapeutic theory. A good working knowledge of these theories and practices is key to facilitating the coach to move clients beyond their 'sticking points'.
  • Business Leadership perspective
Executive coaching focuses on those who execute business strategy in Corporations, SMEs, Charities or Schools so models of leadership and basic business relevant to coaching are examined.

2.  Distinct Curriculum

This covers the areas that are not on the Core curriculum but are of special interest to a particular group of participants.  Based on the individual needs identified in the Learning Plan the whole group decide on what, when and how the topics will be addressed.

3.  Skills Practice

The AEC highly values experiential learn-ing and the importance of practising skills in a 'safe' feedback rich environment.

In client/coach/observer trios, participants practise the use of new techniques and frameworks and receive robust feedback on performance

4.  Personal Development

Through understanding yourself you are able to understand others. Being aware of and utilising your emotions and personal reactions for client interventions is a very effective skill to master.

5.  A Systemic Approach

One to one coaching always happens in a context, so understanding the web of relationships and patterns of influence will give you an insight into how to address the more complex client issues.

AEC Framework

This is the framework that is developed during the programme as the main theme which links all 5 modules together giving structure to the creation of your personal coaching model.
Our Master Coach Model has evolved over the years from:

  • extensive executive coaching experience
  • research into what organisations need from coaches
  • consultation and collaboration with the top coaches in the UK

It reflects the importance of the coach/coachee relationship being part of the wider organisational, cultural & political System.

The model involves four factors, the:

  • Coach's Skillbase
  • Coach's Self Identity
  • Managing the Coaching relationship
  • Understanding the Client System

Programme Format - 15 days over 12 months

To create a vibrant learning community that parallels many of the dynamics of an organisational system we have chosen a structure that draws on all our experience of best practice. This involves and Orientation Day event and 5 modules:

  1. Orientation Event is an opportunity for individuals to connect with each other and the faculty to confirm their Learning Plan and a briefing about how the programme will run and the resources available.
  2. Four 3-day Modules 12 weeks apart to maintain momentum, continuity and integration. Plus a two day Assessment Module in London to complete the programme.
  3. Skills Practice Groups will meet physically or virtually between events to consolidate learning.
  4. Regular Individual Tutorials will attend to academic, professional or development needs.

Modules Structure
Each of the four development modules develops a particular theoretical aspect of the whole programme as well as maintaining common themes such as triad skills practice and client supervision. The fifth module is devoted to the Assessment of your Coaching Framework and Coaching Skills.

Participant Qualities

The working language is Italian. The programme builds on your substantial knowledge and experience of developing people as a:

  • Business leader or senior manager with a coaching style
  • HR manager

  • Organisational trainer
  • Business or Life coach.

You are required to have a minimum of 6 coaching clients by the start of the programme.

AEC expectations of participants

Self responsibility & Co-directed learning

  • There is no freedom without responsibility – a wonderful paradox that sums up the essence of our co-directed programme.
  • The emphasis is on fulfilling your learning needs through an individual Learning Plan in order to create your unique coaching model and personal style.
  • While you have the freedom to choose the optimum path of learning you have to take considerable responsibility for negotiating and creating that reality with others.
