Masterclass Subject

“You were really devious.” - stinging criticism delivered in the heat of the moment, or a comment on a 360 form. We have all experienced ourselves or coached others on receiving this type of unproductive ‘feedback’ and usually get stuck with a level of resentment, defensiveness and unclarity about what to do with it. So how do we propose transforming this devastating ‘feedback’ into some enlightening personal insight?

Ofman’s Core Qualities model provides an answer. It is a process where you discover how to take responsibility for the grain of truth in the criticism by finding the positive Core Quality from which it stemmed.

The challenge is then to establish the balance between expressing that positive quality without going to the extreme polarity of the behaviour that triggered the feedback.

In this Masterclass I will explain this simple but powerful model and how it fits with a Gestalt theoretical framework of Polarities. We will examine the context for using this approach then give you a chance to experience it for yourself and discuss how you can integrate it in to your coaching or mentoring sessions.

Biography

John is founder & CEO of the Academy. He had a successful 25-year career in Gestalt as a practitioner, teacher and trainer at Masters level with appearances on radio and television. Becoming M.D. of the Gestalt institute in London triggered his entrepreneurial spirit and took him into the business world.

With this combination of experience he became a specialist consultant, group facilitator and now executive coach, working with senior executives in a wide range of companies, and supervising internal and independent coaches.
