Psychology Of Coaching
Series / Certificate

Deepen your coaching practice by applying psychological principles effectively.

A Practitioner-based Programme to Develop Psychological Literacy

Who is it for?

  • Do you want to work at a deeper level with your clients?
  • Would you like to add a psychological dimension to your coaching - without training to be a psychotherapist?
  • Are you looking for time-tested, practical techniques to enrich your coaching?
  • Do you want to feel comfortable working with strong emotions?

What does it deliver?

This practitioner-based Programme explores:

  • The psychological underpinnings to coaching by looking at relevant psychological models.
  • How to translate psychological principles into practical coaching application.

Structure and Style

  • The workshop contains a solid conceptual framework combined with experiential learning.
  • You work in pairs and small groups.
  • You have opportunities to practice in triad groups (coach, client and observer).
  • Support Study Packs to support your learning.

This will enable you to

  • manage the client relationship
  • work with sometimes conflicting boundaries
  • work with strong emotions
  • recognise and manage complex psychological conditions
  • transition between different levels of interfacing systems – psychological and organisational

Alongside the capacity to be curious about and to fully understand the client from a psychological perspective, there is also the capacity on the part of coaches to have a willingness to be reflective about their own experience, history, thoughts, feelings, motivations.

These new AEC programmes look at the psychological underpinnings to coaching through an exploration of relevant psychological models with a view to enabling experienced coaches to enhance and deepen their own practice.

The emphasis is on translating psychological principles into practical coaching applications. Such frameworks offer models, techniques and tools which enable the coach to make sense of the personal challenges faced by many clients, while also providing the conceptual base for developing and applying psychological literacy.
