What you will learn
What coaching is – this entry-level programme explains what coaching is, how it can be applied in the workplace and how it differs from similar interventions such as mentoring, counselling, training, managing, consulting and life coaching.
Essential coaching skills – you will be introduced to the core coaching skills needed to work effectively with colleagues or clients – listening, questioning, reflecting back and mirroring and paraphrasing and summarising. The course explores the principles behind each and establishes how they are used in coaching conversations.
About the GROW coaching model – one of the most widely used and powerful professional coaching models, you will discover how to apply this framework to everyday conversations to unlock potential and support developmental opportunities.
How to structure coaching conversations or sessions – fine-tune your interpersonal skills by learning how to design better developmental and performance management conversations. You will learn how to contract with the coachee, build rapport, manage expectations and set goals.
How you learn
This live virtual and in-person two-day certificate combines theory and participation to allow you to practise coaching skills in person, gain insights into how coaching is used and how it can be applied in your line of work.
You will work with fellow participants in pairs and small groups throughout the course to practise coaching skills, gain peer feedback and embed your learning.
You will be led by expert faculty who will provide personal and direct feedback as you test your ‘coaching wings’ in small practice triads: coach, coachee, observer.
Your learning experience
Learning is shared through faculty-led sessions with practise in pair and group work.
The programme’s experiential style of learning allows you to practise coaching skills from day one and will enable you to better understand how and why coaching is an effective development tool.
Your learning will be supported in a safe, secure and confidential environment where you will be able to test your skills and grow your confidence from personal and structured feedback.
The Coaching Skills Certificate does not qualify you as a coach but does provide you with 12 CPD hours towards the 60 required to apply for International Coaching Federation (ICF) accreditation via the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) level portfolio route.

Laura Simpson - UK
“The AoEC coaching skills certificate delivered everything I hoped for and more. I was hoping to learn to run coaching conversations with my team members and to improve my listening skills and I absolutely achieved that. The facilitators were excellent and got the pacing just right.”
Tom Foster-Carter - Lillypilly Limited
“A fantastic deep dive into coaching over two days. I found it empowering, collaborative, eye-opening. A discovery of self but more importantly helping others to self-discover. Great trainers, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and patient!!”
“A great experiential course that provided a simple framework for individuals to take coaching forward. We weren’t bombarded with models and instead allowed to find our own style. Highly recommended for everyone wanting to take a first step into becoming a coach.”
Lauren Newton - UK
“I knew from the one-day taster that this course was right for me and, as expected, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the last two days. I found great value from the easy training style and the realisation that, at the end of the course, we’ve spent a great amount for time putting training techniques into practice rather than simply learning the theory. I am happy to have come away with some practical techniques and plenty of coaching time through the course.”
Jamie Richards - UK
“I undertook this short course to see if I suit Coaching and if Coaching suits me. I felt welcomed into the group, encouraged and supported throughout the 2 days, and came away inspired to take it further. The group was well balanced in every way, the content pitched at exactly the right level and the tone of proceedings was informal, respectful and warm. The 2 days were intense and exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring - the best couple of days I’ve had in a while!”
