Young Professionals Coaching Skills Certificate

in association with CoachBright

The Young Professionals Coaching Skills Certificate, run in collaboration with CoachBright, is a high-quality in-house training opportunity that aims to ease the transition into working life. A 2-day experiential programme, it supports organisations, future leader development schemes and individuals by introducing coaching skills to those aged 18-30 years. As well as helping young professionals perform better and feel more fulfilled at work, the programme helps build essential soft skills required for leadership today.

According to the Institute of Student Employers' Student Development Survey 2019, many graduates, apprentices and school leavers entering the workplace for the first-time lack key stills including resilience, managing up, leadership, commercial awareness and self-awareness. Enriching continuous learning and professional development opportunities, a coaching approach can help prepare your younger talent for key roles. What you will learn

What coaching is – this foundation level programme explains what coaching is, how it can be applied in the workplace and how it differs from similar interventions such as mentoring, counselling, training, managing, consulting and life coaching.

Essential coaching skills – you will be introduced to the core coaching skills needed to work more effectively with colleagues in the workplace – listening, questioning, reflecting back and mirroring and paraphrasing and summarising. The course explores the principles behind each and establishes how they are used in coaching conversations.

About the GROW coaching model – one of the most widely used and powerful professional coaching models, you will discover how to apply this framework to everyday conversations to unlock potential and support developmental opportunities.

How to structure coaching conversations or sessions – fine-tune your interpersonal skills by learning how to design better developmental and performance management conversations. You will learn how to contract with the coachee, build rapport, manage expectations and set goals.

How you learn

The certificate is held over two non-consecutive days and combines theory and participation to allow you to practise coaching skills in person, gain insights into how coaching is used and how it can be applied in your job.

You will work with fellow participants in pairs and small groups throughout the course to practise coaching skills, gain peer feedback and embed your learning.

You will be led by expert faculty who will provide personal and direct feedback as you test your ‘coaching wings’ in small practice triads: coach, coachee, observer.

Your learning experience

Learning is shared through faculty-led sessions with practice in pair and group work.

The programme’s experiential style of learning allows you to practise coaching skills from day one and will enable you to better understand how and why coaching is an effective development tool.
