AoEC Learning Environment
At the AoEC we know that everyone has different learning needs and preferences. We consider all requests for accommodations and adjustments, and we seek to provide a suitable learning environment for you to participate in our coach education programmes.
When we review your request, we will also consider the needs of others with an interest in the programme: participants past, present, and future; your cohort as a whole; programme faculty; the AoEC; and our accrediting bodies. In reaching a decision, we always intend to balance those needs with your individual requirements.
We also consider our pedagogical rationale. Through a combination of programme design and faculty delivery, the AoEC creates an adult learning environment informed by Kolb’s experiential learning model. Participants are invited to learn through the experience of coaching, and our programmes incorporate cycles of experience, reflection, conceptualisation, and active experimentation. In addition, our faculty are all coach practitioners, and they will model a coaching approach throughout programme delivery. They are not instructors or teachers: they will coach you to become a coach.
We recognise that our approach may not suit all learning needs and preferences, and we will support you to choose whether an AoEC programme is right for you.
As a participant you will have the opportunity to share your needs, should you wish, during the programme, either with faculty, the cohort, and/or small peer groups. Careful contracting has always been a cornerstone of AoEC programmes. We also support faculty to increase their knowledge and understanding of how to support diverse learning needs as part of their ongoing professional development.
We are not perfect, and we are open to scrutinising all aspects of the AoEC learning environment. We welcome feedback from all participants - neurotypical and neurodivergent - to enhance the AoEC participant experience (please contact our Head of Coach Education, lucy.tulloch@aoec.com).
